Compliance Standards: Environmental Health and Safety Policy

LaserPoint is proud to comply with European environmental and safety standards, EU Directives 2002/96/EC (WEEE) and 20002/95/EC (RoHS), because we care to creating a better and greener future. On an earth-friendly approach in manufacturing, we protect our workers when manufacturing our products, safeguard our environment and help support the wellbeing of all of us. Below are definitions for these European standards.

WEEE: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Directive 2002/96/EC or WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic equipment) sets specific criteria for the collection, handling and recycling of electric and electronic waste. In particular:
  • Fixes requirements for the amount of WEEE collection (separate from households)
  • Retains resellers accountable for providing free of charge returns of WEEE.
  • Requires WEEE to be duly treated - Requires manufacturers to mark Electrical and Electronic equipment products with the WEEE symbol

RoHS

LaserPoint is also committed to implement and follow those guidelines set out for the use of certain hazardous substances and the disposal of potentially hazards materials.

On January 27, 2003 the European Parliament authorized the Directive 2002/95/EC for the restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

This new directive, also referred to as RoHS , requires that manufacturers reduce the use of six hazardous substances to minimum, acceptable levels by July of 2006.

The six substances affected are:

  • Lead (Pb)
  • Hexavalent chromium (Cr +6)
  • Mercury (Hg)
  • Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB)
  • Cadmium (Cd)
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
